Port Alfred’s Main Beach will bring the 2012 Surfing South Africa Pro Surf Tour to a close on Saturday when forty surfers from all parts of the country compete in the 2A rated Guido’s SA Open.
Current Pro Surf Tour leader Greg Emslie (East London) will be hoping to end the year with a victory and 2012 PST honours but on Saturday he will need to beat 2011 Guido’s SA Open runner up Dan Redman (Durban), fellow East London surfers Wayne Monk and Kyle Galloway and Chad du Toit (Dbn) to take the PST title.
Surfers who could upset the established seeds include ASP World Qualifying Series campaigner Shaun Joubert (Mossel Bay) and Dale Staples (Jeffrey’s Bay) as well up and coming stars such as Steven Sawyer and Dylan Lightfoot (both Jeffrey’s Bay)David and Benji Brand (Kommetjie), Gary Van Wieringen( Warner Beach) and the talented 15 year old, Matt McGillivray (Jeffrey’s Bay).
A number of surfers the local surf club Kowie Boardriders,have entered the event and have home break advantage on their side while the SA Masters trialists, who will be in action at Main Beach on Friday as they battle for slots in the 2013 SA Masters Team, have also put their names down to surf in the Guido’s contest
The Guido’s SA Open gets under way at 8am on Saturday 15 December and will end at approximately 4pm. The Award ceremony, crowning of the 2012 SSA Pro Surf Tour Champions and year end celebration will take place at Guido’s in Port Alfred from 7pm. All are welcome.

The Guido’s SA Open of Surfing is hosted by the Kowie Boardriders and presented by Surfing South Africa. It forms part of the 2012 Surfing South Africa Pro Surf Tour.
