Clean Sweep for SA as All Four Men Advance to Round 2 at ISA World Surfing Games in France
The South African surfing team built on the momentum from team captain Bianca Buitendag’s medal performance in the women’s event when all four men advanced to Round 2 of the 2017 ISA World Surfing Games taking place at Grand Plage in Biarritz, France.
A slight increase in swell size on Tuesday provided waves in the waist to chest high range and the onshore wind did not deter the South Africans from producing top class performances against their opponents from 47 other nations at the annual ‘Olympics’ of surfing.
Vice-captain Dylan Lightfoot (Jeffreys Bay) led the way for his teammates by finishing runner-up just behind two-time (2004 & 2010) ISA world champion Hira Terinatoofa (Tahiti) in his opening encounter of the event in the tiny waves on Monday. Read More….

Buitendag Stars as ISA World Surfing Games Gets Underway in France
South Africa Gets Off to Great Start after Opening Ceremonies in Biarritz
South African surfing team captain Bianca Buitendag (Victoria Bay) provided an example for her teammates to follow by producing the highest single ride of the opening day of the ISA World Surfing Games in Biarritz France on Saturday.
The first World Surfing Games to be staged since the sport was included in the 2020 Olympic Games in Japan has attracted a record 245 competitors from 47 nations, many of whom are participating in the event for the first time. Read More…
South African Team for the 2017 ISA World Surfing Games in Biarritz, France announced by Surfing South Africa.
The Board of Directors of Surfing South Africa have confirmed the names of the surfers who have been selected to represent South Africa at the 2017 ISA World Surfing Games which will take place at Biarritz in France from May 20th – 28th.
The team members are Dylan Lightfoot (Jeffrey’s Bay, Eastern Cape),Shane Sykes (Salt Rock, KwaZulu-Natal),David Van Zyl (Glenashley, KwaZulu-Natal), new cap Brandon Benjamin (Retreat, Western Cape) Bianca Buitendag (Victoria Bay, Southern Cape) and Tanika Hoffman (Sea Point, Western Cape). Greg Emslie (East London, Eastern Cape) and Faye Zoetmulder ( Cape St Francis, Eastern Cape) are the reserves.
All eight of the surfers selected to represent South Africa at this prestigious event have impressive pedigrees. Bianca Buitendag is an acknowledged World Tour campaigner who has not only made a name for herself as a fearsome competitor in the water but is also a role model with a heart of gold.
