Tricky Conditions make wave selection key as finalists are confirmed on day 5

The competition was once again moved to Nahoon Corner on Day 5 as the current made surfing at Nahoon Reef impossible at the 2017 Mercedes – Benz SA Surfing Championships hosted by Buffalo City. Conditions at the Corner were good, but with slightly smaller and fewer quality waves on offer compared to perfect conditions the day before.

Finalists were confirmed for all divisions in the competition except for the Open Men and Women who will start day 6 off with their semi-finals. Read More…

Swell rises at Nahoon Reef on Day Two of the South African Surfing Championships. Huge swell predicted for Days Three and Four

Surfers at the 2017 Mercedes – Benz SA Championships hosted by Buffalo City had to deal with 6 – 8 foot surf,strong winds and an energy sapping paddle on Day Two of this six day event and according to predictions conditions are set to become more testing over the next two days.

Despite the difficult conditions there was some outstanding performances with defending SA Open Men’s Champion Greg Emslie raising the bar. The Buffalo City Surfriders team member was outstanding all day and in one heat was rewarded with a massive 9.9 wave score out of a possible 10 points. Emslie has looked solid in every heat he has competed in so far and must be a favourite for the title in this division. Read More….

Heather Clark Posts Highest Heat Score in Challenging Conditions on Day 1 of SA Championships

The early rounds of the 2017 Mercedes – Benz SA Surfing Championships hosted by Buffalo City began in challenging conditions at Nahoon Reef in East London today (Tuesday August 22)

The 52nd Edition of the premier Surfing South Africa National Championships features over 160 surfers from nine Districts who are competing for nine individual titles as well as Team honours.

Strong winds and changing conditions, which improved throughout the day, produced some fine individual performances and high scoring heats. Read More…

Nahoon Reef in East London is bracing itself for the arrival of over 200 surfers and officials who will be participating in the 2017 Mercedes – Benz South African Surfing Championships hosted by Buffalo City from Tuesday August 22nd to Sunday August 27th .

The Mercedes – Benz SA Championships hosted by Buffalo City is the premier event on the Surfing South Africa calendar and features surfers in the Open Men’s and Women’s Divisions as well seven other age groups ranging from Over 30 to Over 60. READ MORE….
