MR PRICE PRO JUNIOR
Scheduled to take place in Ballito on the Kwadukuza Coast
July 2- 4, 2010
A 6 A Rated Surfing South Africa Pro Junior event
Lucrative Mr Price Pro Junior will attract South Africa’s best Under 20 surfers to Ballito in July
The well known lineups of ‘Surfers’ and ‘Salmon Bay’ will attract most of the country’s Under 20 stars to Ballito when the Mr Price Pro Junior touches down at the world class surfing destination in Kwadukuza from July 2-4.
Featured as part of the 2010 Surfing South Africa Pro Surf Tour (PST), the 6A rated event offers a massive prize purse of R40,000 with the winner pocketing R12,000 as well as a valuable haul PST ratings points.
“We are delighted with the support Mr Price has put into the Junior PST this year and especially pleased with the boost they are giving the sport of surfing in our country,” said Robin de Kock, General Manager of Surfing South Africa.
“The Mr Price Pro Junior and the Mr Price Womens Pro will be the two biggest events that the Surfing South Africa PST has sanctioned to date. The fact that they are both part of the domestic tour means that local surfers will be able to compete and we anticipate a massive field of entries for both divisions.”
The 6A rated Mr Price Pro Junior will be the biggest domestic junior event ever held on the PST.
Local favourite and Mr Price Western Province Open champion, Beyrick de Vries, will be tough to beat as he takes on the country’s best just north of his home break at Umhlanga.
“With so much money at stake and so many PST points available the Mr Price Pro Junior is super important,” said de Vries. “The prize money can help with my international travel costs and I’m stoked that the event is happening in my backyard.”
With his eyes firmly on the Pro Junior title de Vries will also be contesting the Mr Price Pro Ballito from July 5 -11 and will be hoping to cause major upsets in this international event.
Other juniors who are fired up for Ballito include the Kommetjie awesome foursome of Davey Brand, Matthew Bromley, Michael February and Jarred Veldhuis while any one of Durban surfers Shawn Dennis, Devin Lane, Casey Grant, Chris Leppan, David van Zyl and Slade Prestwich, Mossel Bay’s Shaun Joubert or Cape St Francis stars Nick Godfrey and Dale Staples could win the title.
The online entry form for the 2010 Mr Price Pro Junior will be posted on www.surfingsouthafrica.co.za by April 25.
