The South African Team to celebrate Surfing’s inclusion in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics at the INS ISA World Surfing Games in Costa Rica

Wednesday August 3rd – The members of the 2016 South African team heard the news that Surfing had been included in the 2020 Olympic Games as they waited to board a flight from Los Angeles Airport to San Jose in Costa Rica for the INS ISA World Surfing Games which gets under way at Jaco Beach on Saturday and end on Sunday August 14th.

Twenty six teams from all corners of the globe have started arriving in Costa Rica for an event that is certain to go down in history. It has been more than a century since Duke Kahanamoku, the father of modern Surfing, first expressed his wish to see Surfing in the Olympics at the 1912 Games in Stockholm. The International Surfing Association (ISA) has expressed its gratitude and excitement at the decision by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to add Surfing to the Sports Program for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
