Mixed Results for South African Boys on Day 1 of VISSLA ISA World Junior Championships in Japan

The boys in the South African surfing team posted mixed results on the opening day of the 2017 VISSLA ISA World Junior Surfing Championship which was held in light winds and small hip to shoulder high waves at Okuragahama Beach in Hyuga, Japan earlier today (Sunday).

The quartet in the 18-and-under division all advanced to Round 2 of the Main Event stream while two of the four U16 boys were relegated to the cutthroat Repercharge stream in the double elimination format being used at this event. Read More….

2017 South African Junior Team on their way to Japan for the ISA World Championships

The 2017 South African Junior Team is on their way to Hyuga in Japan to join over 40 nations at the 2017 ISA World Junior Surfing Championships.

Fourteen members of the 15 strong team, made up of eight boys, four girls, a manager and two coaches, left for Japan yesterday evening. The 15th member of the team is Ethan Fletcher who will depart on Tuesday after he completes an important school exam.

Heading up the U18 Boys Division is Adin Masencamp (Strand) who was presented with his fifth cap at the Colours Awards on Saturday night. Joshe Faulkner (Jeffrey’s Bay) wins his third cap while Koby Oberholzer (Warner Beach) and Fletcher ( Kommetjie) both win their second cap. Read More…
