The 2018 South African Junior Team is on their way to Huntington Beach in California to join 42 nations at the 2018 Visla ISA World Junior Surfing Championships.

The team, which was awarded their colours at the Opening Function of the Sea Harvest SA Junior Surfing Championships, a fortnight ago, left on the long journey to California on an Emirates flight via Dubai yesterday.

They will compete in the U18 Boys and Girls divisions and the U16 Boys and Girls Divisions in the annual event, which gets under way with the Parade of Nations on Saturday October 27th and ends with the Finals on Sunday November 4th.

The U18 Boys in the team are Bryce du Preez (East London), Luke Slijpen ( Hout Bay) and Angelo Faulkner (Jeffreys Bay and the U18 Girls who will be surfing are Zoe Steyn & Tayla de Coning (both East London) and Gabi Lailvaux (Westbrook).

Luke Thompson and Tide – Lee Ireland (both Durban) and Mitch du Preez (East London) make up the U16 Boys group with Zoe Steyn, Kayla Nogueira (Umhlanga) and Ceara Knight (Scarborough) competing in the U16 Girls section of the tournament.

Chris Bond and Etienne Venter are the Coaches.

Surfing South Africa is the National Governing body for the sport in South Africa. SSA is a member of the South African Sports Commission and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), the African Surfing Confederation (ASC) and the International Surfing Association (ISA).
