Boland surfer Adin Masencamp (Strand) was the star competitor in the Strand SSA Gromcomp Saturday (June 30th ) winning both the Under 16 and Under 14 Divisions in this 1A PST event.

Julian Zens (Melkbosstrand) took the Under 12 title, Alex Townsend (Kommetjie) won the Under 10 final and Anoush Zakarian ( Melkbos) was the winner of the Girls Division.

In the Under 16 Final Masencamp, who celebrates his 13th birthday tomorrow, beat 2012 National team member Steff Burrows (Stellenbosch) into the runner up spot with Dillon Fernandez ( Fish Hoek) taking third and Josh Olive ( Kommetjie) ending fourth. Tristan Lev ( Bloubergstrand) was runner up to Masencamp in the Under 14 division with Ethan Fletcher (Kommetjie) taking third. Donavan Wichmann (Marina da Gama) came fourth.

Zens beat Braga Jorgensen ( Kommetjie) into second place in the Under 12 Final with Tom Curran (Kirstenhof) third and Bradley Drummer ( Kommetjie taking fourth place.

In the Girls group Kiah Bettison ( Kommetjie) and Caitlin October ( Noordhoek) were second and third respectively.

Over 30 surfers competed in the Strand SSA Gromcomp which was presented by Surfing South Africa and hosted by Boland Surfing association. It was held in overcast conditions and 3 foot surf.

The Under 16 and Under 14 competitors earned prize money and secured ratings points on the SSA Pro Surf Tour as these divisions were 1A rated while all the finalist won prizes from Skullcandy earphones to Reef Wetsuits.

SSA will present six SSA Gromcomps in 2012 and all the surfers in the Under 16 and Under 14 Divisions win prizemoney,1 A PST points and prizes. The next events will be held in the Cape Peninsula and Durban on October 28th with the final two contests scheduled for Port Elizabeth and Umzumbe on November 10th

The Gromcomps are a Surfing South Africa talent ID initiative and cater for up and coming as well as established junior surfers. They are supported by Sport and Recreation SA and sponsors such as Skullcandy and Reef Wetsuits.

Surfing South Africa is recognized by the SA Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee ( SASCOC) and the International Surfing Association (ISA) as the governing body for the sport in South Africa.
