Long Beach in Kommetjie will play host to a 4A South African Surf Tour and WSL JQS1000 event when the fourth edition of the BOS Cape Crown presented by Sea Harvest and supported by the Western Cape Department of Culture and Sport, takes place at this popular Western Cape surf spot from Friday to Sunday.
Over 80 surfers have entered the contest, which caters for boys and girls in the U12, U14 and U16 boys and girls Divisions as well as U18 boys and girls, who will compete in the internationally rated JQS1000 event.
The top seed in the 4A SAST U16 Boys division is Daniel Emslie of East London. Emslie, who tops the SAST rankings, will earn his first cap for South Africa at the end of October when he travels to Huntington Beach in California with the rest of the South African Junior team to participate in the ISA World Junior Surfing Championships.
Kommetjie local Luke Van Wyk, who is ranked second on the SAST in the U16 Division, is the second seed for the event with East London surfers Reilly Mare and Mitch du Preez seeded third and fourth respectively.
2019 SA Junior Team member and number two on the SAST U16 Girls leader board, Ceara Knight of Kommetjie, is top seed in this division for the BOS Cape Crown. East London girls Adriel Wolmarans and Aimee du Preez are seeded second and third respectively while another 2019 SA Junior team member, Kayla Nogueira of Umhlanga, is the fourth seed.
Nathan Plomaritis of Cape St Francis and River Gericke of Wilderness are the top two U14 Boys seeds while Rory Dace of Seal Point and Levi Epenetos of Tableview are the top two seeds in the U12 Boys division.
Only four U14 Girls and three U12 Girls have entered the event so these two divisions will be combined. The top U14 Girl is 2019 Tigers Milk Winter Classic winner and 2018 U12 SA Champion, Sarah Scott of Kommetjie while Anastasia Venter of Melkbosstrand is the top U12 Girl.
The first heats in the 2019 BOS Cape Crown presented by Sea Harvest and supported by the Western Cape Department of Culture and Sport will get under way at 8am at Long Beach on Friday September 13th. The World Surf League JQS1000 Pro Junior heats and the SAST Division Finals will take place on Sunday September 15th.
All the Heats and the provisional format will be published on www.liveheats.com/surfingsouthafrica on Wednesday September 11th.
The 2019 BOS Cape Crown is presented by Surfing South Africa and hosted by the Cape Town Surfriders. This is the first internationally rated surfing event to be held at Long Beach, Kommetjie in 10 years.
