The surf rich city of East London plays host to the popular 2019 edition of the Sea Harvest Nahoon Junior Open presented by Twizza Still Water at Nahoon Beach this weekend. For the third year in a row solid support from Sea Harvest and Twizza sees the event status is raised to a 3A rating on the 2019 SA Surf Tour. This means that finalists in the U12, U14 and U16 divisions will earn SAST ratings points and a share of the R15000 prizemoney, win medals and take home one of the unique wooden trophies hand crafted specifically for this contest by five time SA Champion and National Team Coach, Greg Emslie. Emslie is adding support to the contest by accommodating all the officials in his Oakhampton Guest House in Berea.

As with all Surfing South Africa SA Surf Tour contests the Sea Harvest Nahoon Junior Open will use the popular Liveheats platform which means that scores will be available on mobile devices, laptops and PC’s as they are inputted by the judges. These scores will be available from the first round until the last heat is completed on Sunday. To follow the scores go to and the heat draw for all six divisions is available from now.

Local surfers Daniel Emslie and Zoe Steyn are the top seeds in the U16 Boys and Girls divisions respectively while in the U14 division Wilderness local River Gericke and Sarah Scott of Kommetjie head the Boys and Girls draw respectively.

Rory Dace of Cape St Francis is the top seed in the U12 Boys group with the talented Melkbosstand surfer Anastasia Venter top in the U12 Girls division.

2018 Sea Harvest Excellence award recipient Zia Hendricks of Pellsrus, will be competing in both the U14 Division, where she is seeded third and in the U16 Division where she is the fifth seed.

Also competing in the U16 Girls Division at this weekend’s contest is the highly rated Peruvian surfer Sol Aguirre. Aquirre competed in the Pro Junior Division of the Royal St Andrews Hotel Port Alfred Classic last weekend, where she came fifth.

Hosts, Buffalo City Surfriders, are holding an Opening Function on Friday May 3rd at 6pm at the Nahoon Lifesavers Shack at Nahoon Beach. All competitors, officials, friends and family are welcome. Food and refreshments will be available.

The event will get under way at 7.30am on both Saturday and Sunday.

The 2019 Sea Harvest Nahoon Junior Open presented by Twizza Still Water is hosted by the Buffalo City Surfriders and coordinated and sanctioned by Surfing South Africa, the recognized national governing body for the sport. Surfing South Africa is a member of the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC), the African Surfing Confederation (ASC) and the International Surfing Association (ISA).
